D.C. Area Kosher Restaurants
Within the city limits of Washington, DC.
Eli's Restaurant is at 1253 20th St. NW, the SE corner of 20th and N Streets. A short walk from Kesher Israel, numerous hotels, Geroge Washington University, and two METRO stations (Dupont Circle and Farragut North on the Red Line), Eli's serves deli -- much of it homemade -- burgers and some specialties. They are open six days each week.
The JCC Cafe is located in the DC JCC at 16th and Q Streets NW. It is about five blocks farther than Eli's from the synagogue. It is currently open from 11 am until 8 pm Sunday through Thursday.
The Fifth Street Deli is a kosher eatery located in the "J Street" area of the Marvin Center at The George Washington University at the corner of 21st and H Streets.
The Krispy Kreme on Dupont Circle (south side between Connecticut Ave. and 19th St., adjacent to the south exit of the Dupont Circle METRO Station) is also under hashgacha.
Maryland Suburbs
There are several kosher restaurants in the Maryland suburbs, mostly in Rockville and Wheaton/Silver Spring. Some are METRO accessible. Check the Rabbinical Council of Washington website for a complete list of DC Metro area kosher eateries.
Supermarkets with Kosher food
If your schedule prevents you from reaching a kosher restaurant, there are a few groceries and supermarkets that carry a variety of kosher products. Most notable in the immediate vicinity is a Safeway -- often dubbed the "Social Safeway" -- on Wisconsin Avenue NW just north of S Street NW. There is also a Safeway in the Watergate complex (yes, that Watergate), at Virginia and 24th. In addition, there is a Trader Joe's on 25th between L and M. The Trader Joe's is walkable from both Kesher Israel and several hotels. Lastly, Brookville Market in Cleveland Park stocks a large quantity of kosher food. It is accessable via METRO's red line at the Cleveland Park metro stop.
